One of my favorite materials to work with has to be sea glass. Now, honestly, I doubt that all of the sea glass I am using is actually authentic, since I am buying it from retail stores, but I still like the look and feel of the tumbled glass. From a safety standpoint, there are fewer opportunities to slice myself open when gluing the tesserae, which is a bonus. From an aesthetic angle, I just find myself drawn to the frosted look and muted colors.
In the Green Sea Glass Mirror, you can see (if you look closely) actual bottle tops (upper corners!). The borders are clear glass beads. You can also see my elbow, this is one of the re-takes I did in the sun the other day. Have you ever tried taking a picture of a mirror without getting in there too? It’s not easy, I’ll say that much.
